Introduction of the Research Group

The research aims the investigation of the behaviour and performance of new and existing civil engineering structures and the built environment exposed to extreme effects - earthquake, fire, explosion, tornado, extreme snow, extreme wind, etc. -, and develops innovative protection solutions. The research addresses: - characterization and description of extreme effects, - behavior of structural materials, development of material models, - modelling and simulation of global behavior of structures, analysis and study of the response to extreme effects, - development of innovative structural solutions, - inspection and protection of the existing built environment, - evaluation and improvement of the resilience of the built environment to extreme effects, risk analysis, - development of design procedures for innovative solutions, standardization efforts.

Achievements

-development and practical application of site-specific seismic response spectrum
-developments for innovative seismic protection devices, such as buckling restrained braced frame system, rocking frame,
-smart blast resistant structural solutions
-methodological developments and application of risk and resilience analysis
