Computer Graphics and Machine Vision Research Group

Introduction of the Research Group

The computer graphics team specializes in photorealistic image synthesis on a real-time GPU, off-line CPU-based global illumination, simulation of non-photorealistic / artistic imaging, simulation and visualization of medical / physical / technical systems, image processing, machine vision, and tomography reconstruction.

Achievements

- Algorithms and GPU implementation of a dynamic PET reconstruction system
- GPU-based sampling and reconstruction
- Non-Euclidean geometries in games and virtual reality systems
-Real-time algorithmic photography: fog, rain, etc. Disappearance
-Deep learning applications in image processing and graphics
- Determination of retinal transfer function (collaboration with Roska Botond's Basel group).

Awards

I have to mention that our former students have been placed in professional leadership positions such as e.g. Intel, Google, Amazon, Weta Digital, Industrial Light & Magic, Disney, DreamWorks, etc. Attila Áfra, our former doctoral student and currently an Intel researcher, won the Technical Oscar this year, which is the highest award for the practical application of computer graphics.

Other activities

For several years I was a member of the management of Eurographics, which organized a number of international conferences. In 1997 the big Eurographics Conference was in Budapest. It has been suggested several times that the same or e.g. Researchers from all over the world would like to come to Budapest for the smaller Eurographics Rendering Symposium conference. But since the Chancellery at BME would give you no help with this, but it would make it all bureaucratically, it would be suicide for us to cut into one.
