Introduction of the Research Group

The BME Research Group for Geodesy and Geodynamics is a laboratory working at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, in the Department of Geodesy and Surveying. The laboratory aims to perform basic and applied researches in the field of geodesy. More specifically, the group focuses on (1) the development of a QDaedelus astro-geodetic measurement system for observation deflection of the vertical values with high precision, (2) modernizing traditional Eötvös torsion balance instrument involving of present IT technology achieving unprecedented accuracy, (3) processing observations of gravity satellites (CHAMP, GRACE(-FO), GOCE, GRAIL) for determination of the geoid / solenoid, (4) developing methodology for processing, handling and interpreting gradiometric observations, (5) developing methodology for interpolating deflection of the vertical observations, (6) developing methodology for processing, handling and interpreting InSAR Sentinel-1 observations, (7) reconstruction of the Eötvös torsion balance measurement for proving the equivalence of gravitational and inertial mass, (8) analysing the geodetic impacts of temporal variation of the Earth's gravity field, (9) interpreting the geometric content of gravity gradients (relations between Eötvös- and Marussi-tensor), (10) investigations of the geodetic control networks and reference frames of Hungary, datum transformations.

Achievements

- Development of an astro-geodetic measurement system
- Methodological development of processing gravity satellite observations
- Methodological development of interpolation of the deflection of the vertical data
- Methodological development of regional gravity field modeling
- Local and regional scale InSAR monitoring
