Introduction of the Research Group

To continue the activities of the MTA-BME Open Curriculum Development Research Group operating between 2016 and 2021, the Vocational Education and Training Pedagogy Research Group was established in March 2022 within the same organizational framework. By the specifics of Hungarian vocational training, the research group undertook to develop methodological training in the case of complex school subjects. Their research aimed to involve high school students and our students in vocational teacher training (prospective vocational teachers) in the open curriculum development process and to provide them with methodological knowledge suitable for the continuous development of active learning with community content development elements. From a methodological point of view, the procedure was called Open Content Development (OCD). As a result of the four-year research, a new methodological curriculum development model was developed and implemented. The aim was to apply open curriculum development (OCD) and procedures in practice within the framework of student/teacher activities with the active participation of teachers. Given the complex nature of the subject, the development and testing of new e-learning materials, the monitoring of effectiveness, and the evaluative summary of research results in the subjects of secondary vocational education have taken place in a significant spectrum of vocational education. The use of cloud services was a significant methodological feature of the research. Our current goal is to jointly develop a regular forum for researchers and developers with different disciplinary backgrounds related to vocational training, whose programs and cooperation opportunities can contribute to preparing and implementing new projects.

Achievements

- In a curriculum construction formed in an open-access approach - also providing the possibility of community content development in the case of groups/classes of learners - actively involved in the construction and committed students/teachers. Additional innovation potential has been provided to provide the significant storage required for this process for cloud services.
- The development of open educational content (OLR) with the participation of students is a content and methodological the potential of the pilot curriculum development) To applied IT solutions, closed and open educational frameworks (LMS), and complex visual memory-independent management of illustrative elements by flexible management of micro-content can go well beyond traditional note-based / textbook-based teaching.
- Surveys and interviews with students and the management of micro-content developed by students is a new process. In the open, we involved students (prospective professional teachers) in the curriculum development process. We have acquired methodological knowledge suitable for active learning - community content development elements.
