Introduction of the Research Group

The focus of the Ship Design Research Group is mainly on developments of inland vessels, both commercial and pleasure. We deal with vessels' hydrodynamical and structural enhancement, system optimization and integration, make and analyze onboard measurement data, operational profile. We have a very good relationship with the Hungarian shipping and ship-building industry, and have been involved in many different shipping and ship-building related local and international EU supported projects, resulting in fruitful relationships with not only western but eastern European institutes as well. In the last few years we also turned our attention to electric and other alternative drive train solutions and autonomous vessels (especially but not only USV and AUV) dealing with motion dynamics description of vehicles, development and testing.

Achievements

'- hull optimization using CFD for Hungarian ship owners;- hybrid ship propulsion feasibility study for Hungarian ship owners;
- participation in the rescue and analysis of the biggest ship catastrophe of the last decades on the Danube ("Mermaid");
- successful participation in EU supported projects;
- expertise in domestic projects dealing with the development of pontoons made of concrete for public promenade on the Danube;
- development of ship-borne waste management system for Central and Eastern European countries;
- design and development of several sailing yachts and electric pleasure boats;
